This is a traditional type of render that uses a mix of sand, cement and water. Its historically known for its durability and strength. It Is very cost effective but can be susceptible to cracking.
This render is usually mixed on site but can also be purchased in a factory batched pre-bagged form.
It is then applied in two coats the first coat is commonly known as a "scratch coat" this is used as a levelling coat and key coat for next layer.
The second coat is the finishing coat, the applicator will proceed to use a float to level and smooth the surface.
Any textured finishes would usually then be applied after these two primary coats.
After the sand and cement render has cured, this would then need to be decorated to the customers chosen finish.
